How to apply for the Miami-Dade transit cards

The Discount-Fare EASY Card is the everyday card for people with disabilities. The application needs a Florida-licensed physician certification of disability (including the medical code and whether the disability is permanent) plus a current Florida ID with a Miami-Dade County address for applicants under 65. Apply online through the Miami-Dade Transit portal or in person at the Golden Passport Office or any 311 service center.

The Golden Passport is renewed every 20 years for cardholders 65 and older, and annually for younger Social Security beneficiaries. The Patriot Passport renews annually because eligibility tracks each year's income; service-connected disabled veterans qualify regardless of income. All three cards are issued as EASY Card transit smartcards.

Venue admission and what "free" actually covers

Vizcaya's free admission is offered to any visitor identifying as disabled, plus one accompanying caregiver. You do not need a placard or letter; you self-identify at the admissions booth on arrival. Wheelchair loans are first-come, first-served at the same booth.

PAMM does not discount the disabled visitor's $18 adult ticket, but admits any paid personal care attendant accompanying a disabled visitor at no charge. Thursdays after 17:00 are free for everyone. Wheelchairs are loaned free of charge at the visitor services desk for the duration of the visit.

Frost Science, Fairchild, Zoo Miami, Jungle Island and Coral Castle charge standard admission to disabled visitors. Their accessibility offering is access support (wheelchair loans, accessible parking, accessible trams) rather than ticket discount. Seniors qualify for the usual senior price at Zoo Miami and Fairchild.

The parking permit and STS paratransit

Florida residents with long-term mobility impairments qualify for a permanent free Disabled Person Parking Permit valid for four years. Short-term mobility impairments are covered by a temporary permit (up to six months for a $15 fee). Out-of-state visitors should bring their home-state placard; Florida disabled spaces honour reciprocating placards from any US state.

Off the fixed-route network, Miami-Dade STS paratransit costs $3.50 per one-way trip, runs door-to-door, and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week across most of Miami-Dade County.
