Step-free entrance
The main visitor entrance is step-free from the admissions booth to the first floor of the Main House. Accessible parking spaces are in the main parking lot and in the service area on the south side of the Main House; staff at the booth can direct you to the closest space if you arrive with a placard.

Vertical access
Wheelchair access to the second floor of the Main House is not available. The first floor (where the central rooms with the original Deering collection are displayed) is mostly accessible; the East Loggia and the Entrance Loggia are not. Getting there

Vizcaya sits on Biscayne Bay in the Coconut Grove neighbourhood, about 5 km south of downtown Miami at 3251 South Miami Avenue. The simplest option for a wheelchair user is to drive (or rideshare) and park in the main lot, where the accessible spaces sit closest to the admissions booth.

The Vizcaya Metrorail station is across the highway from the museum; the station itself is wheelchair-accessible per Miami-Dade Transit's policy that every Metrorail station is accessible. The crossing from the station to the museum entrance is the friction point and involves a pedestrian bridge plus a short walk. If you are uncertain about surface quality after recent weather, the rideshare or accessible-vehicle option is the safer one.

At the admissions booth

Self-identify as a disabled visitor at the booth on arrival to claim your free admission and the caregiver's. No placard, letter or pre-registration is required. The booth attendant will also lend you a wheelchair from the small first-come, first-served loan stock if you ask.

If you would like a Sign Language interpreter to accompany a guided tour of the Main House, contact the museum at least five working days in advance to schedule one. Drop-in interpretation is not available.

The Main House and the gardens

The first floor of the Main House is mostly wheelchair-accessible; the East Loggia and the Entrance Loggia are not. The original Deering collection and the central rooms (Entrance Hall, Reception Room, Library, Music Room) are reachable from a step-free route through the courtyard. The second floor (bedrooms, the Vizcayan ceiling) is not accessible by wheelchair.

The central portions of the formal gardens are accessible, but visitors should be aware that the paths are primarily dirt and gravel, rather than paved. Manual wheelchair users with narrow tires may find the gravel sections slow; a power chair or borrowed wheelchair with broader tires handles them more easily. The Stone Barge on the bay is best viewed from the seawall path rather than the lower jetty.

Tips for visiting

Vizcaya is an outdoor-dominant visit. The Florida sun is strong from 11:00 onwards; an early arrival (around the 09:30 opening) buys you cooler temperatures in the gardens before you head into the air-conditioned Main House.

Photography is allowed throughout the house and gardens. Touch is not permitted on the historic surfaces. The on-site Café (Vizcaya Café and Shop) has step-free access from the main visitor circulation.
