Peggy Guggenheim Collection wheelchair accessibility
Four platform lifts, a free wheelchair loan, and free admission for the disabled visitor and one companion on the Dorsoduro side of the Grand Canal.
Four platform lifts give you a step-free route through Peggy Guggenheim's palazzo on the Grand Canal. You enter from the land side, not the canal. The ticket office lends wheelchairs free. Admission is free for the disabled visitor and one companion. Staff are used to helping wheelchair users settle into the visit.

Getting there
The Peggy Guggenheim Collection occupies the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni on the Grand Canal in Dorsoduro. The closest accessible vaporetto stop is Accademia (Line 1 and Line 2). From Accademia, take the path that runs west along Fondamenta Venier Dei Leoni; the museum's land-side entrance is on Calle San Cristoforo, a five-minute roll away.
An alternative if you are coming from San Marco: take Line 1 from San Marco Vallaresso, change for Line 2 if you prefer, and ride two stops to Accademia. The vaporetto crossing avoids the stepped Accademia bridge, which is the main barrier on the walking route from the San Marco side.
Why the canal entrance is closed and what to do instead
The famous lion-headed Marini sculpture on the canal-side terrace is one of the museum's signatures, but the canal-side terrace is not the entrance for visitors. The museum is direct on the point: "Non è possibile accedere al museo direttamente dal Canal Grande." Walk-up arrivals enter from the land side.
Once you are inside, the canal-side terrace is part of the regular accessible route through the museum. You will reach it via the platform lifts that connect the palazzo's split levels. The view back across the Grand Canal to Punta della Dogana is one of the best in Venice.
The four platform lifts
Peggy Guggenheim's palazzo was built across multiple levels with short flights of steps between each. The museum has installed four platform lifts to bypass those flights. Together they cover the garden access, the main palazzo entrance, the cafe, and the temporary exhibition rooms.
The result is a step-free route through the regular collection, the canal-side terrace, the garden, and the cafe. Staff are used to operating the platform lifts and will accompany you between rooms. The museum's published phrase is plain: "Il personale è a disposizione per facilitare la visita."
Wheelchair loan, admission and what to bring
The ticket office lends wheelchairs for free. The museum's published page states: "È possibile richiedere gratuitamente alla biglietteria del museo l'uso di una sedia a ruote." If your visit lands on a major-exhibition weekend, reserve the loan in advance by phone (the accessibility-inquiries number below) because loan stock is limited.
Admission is free for the disabled visitor and one companion: "L'ingresso è gratuito per la persona con ridotta mobilità e per chi l'accompagna." Bring your European Disability Card or your home-country disability ID with a recent doctor's letter on letterhead.
