Disney's Animal Kingdom wheelchair accessibility
Pandora, Africa, Asia and Discovery Island are paved and step-free. The Kilimanjaro Safaris jeeps board wheelchair users. Disney's DAS virtual queue replaces standby waits for guests with developmental disabilities.
Disney's Animal Kingdom is the largest of the four Walt Disney World parks by acreage and the most natural-feeling underfoot. Pandora, Africa, Asia, Discovery Island, DinoLand U.S.A. and Rafiki's Planet Watch are all reached by paved, step-free paths. The Kilimanjaro Safaris jeeps board wheelchair users on a wheelchair-accessible vehicle row.
Accessibility at a glance
| What | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Step-free entrance | The Oasis entry path winds from the entrance turnstiles to Discovery Island and is paved and gently rolling. Security screening is a metal-detector lane at the front; a dedicated accessible lane is held for wheelchair and ECV users. Inside the park, the natural terrain rolls more than at the other Walt Disney World parks, but every route is paved. | Partially confirmed |
| Vertical access | The park is single-level. Expedition Everest, Avatar Flight of Passage and Na'vi River Journey all require a transfer to a moving ride vehicle; the Cast Member at the load zone will guide you to the accessible boarding route. The Tree of Life Theater (It's Tough to Be a Bug!) seats wheelchair users in dedicated rows at the back. | Partially confirmed |
| Accessible toilets | Every restroom block has wheelchair-accessible stalls. Companion (universal) restrooms are signposted on Discovery Island near the Tree of Life, in Pandora near Flight of Passage, in Africa near the Harambe market, and at the entrance to Asia near Anandapur. | Partially confirmed |
| Companion entry | Disney does not discount admission for disabled visitors or companions. DAS is the access program: live-video-chat pre-registration up to sixty days in advance, then return times booked in the My Disney Experience app. DAS covers the registered guest and up to five additional party members on the same ride return time. | Confirmed accessible |
Getting there
Park your car in the Animal Kingdom lot; accessible parking is in the front rows requiring a valid disabled placard. The parking-lot tram is not wheelchair-accessible; plan to roll to the gate or ask Cast Members for a courtesy ride.
Disney resort buses serve every Disney hotel and are ramp-equipped. The Skyliner does not reach Animal Kingdom; if you stay at Caribbean Beach or Pop Century you will need the resort bus. Mears Connect runs ramp-equipped buses from Orlando International Airport directly to the Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Inside the park
Pre-register for Disability Access Service via live video chat up to sixty days before the visit. DAS replaces standby waits with a return-time virtual queue and is intended for guests who cannot wait in standby lines because of a developmental disability such as autism. The pass is good for up to six people per registration.
Wheelchair and ECV rentals are sold at Garden Gate Gifts just inside the main entrance. Quantities are limited on busy days. The Kilimanjaro Safaris jeeps have one wheelchair-accessible row per vehicle; ask the Cast Member at the load zone for the accessible boarding lane. The Wildlife Express Train to Rafiki's Planet Watch is wheelchair-accessible.
Guest Relations near the entrance issues handheld audio-description and assistive-listening receivers and reflective-captioning glasses. The Finding Nemo: The Big Blue and Beyond show has reserved captioning seating. Sign-language interpretation is offered on select days at the theatrical shows; check the My Disney Experience app for the schedule.
Tips for visiting
The park is warmer and more humid than the others because the landscaping is dense and the canopies are real. Plan indoor breaks at the Finding Nemo theatre, the Festival of the Lion King, or Wildlife Express to Rafiki's Planet Watch. Pandora is at its best after dusk when the bioluminescent landscaping lights up; the paths stay step-free in low light.
Service animals are welcome throughout the park, though some animal-encounter areas restrict them for the welfare of the resident animals. Cast Members will guide service-animal handlers to the appropriate route. Relief areas are signposted near the park entrance, in Africa and in Asia.
