Hollywood Walk of Fame wheelchair accessibility
Public sidewalk with embedded stars along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. Step-free at every block. Metro B Line stops at both ends.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame is an open public sidewalk, not a venue you enter. Stars are embedded along 1.3 miles of Hollywood Boulevard and 0.4 miles of Vine Street. Two step-free Metro B Line stations (Hollywood / Highland and Hollywood / Vine) bookend the most walked stretch. The sidewalk is mostly smooth; pavement quality varies block by block.
Accessibility at a glance
| What | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Step-free entrance | The Walk has no entrance; it is the sidewalk itself. Both Metro B Line stations on the Walk (Hollywood / Highland at the western end and Hollywood / Vine in the middle) are step-free with lifts to street level. Kerb cuts are present at every major intersection along Hollywood Boulevard. | Confirmed accessible |
| Vertical access | No vertical access is needed for the Walk itself; it is a street-level sidewalk. The Metro B Line stations Hollywood / Highland and Hollywood / Vine both use lifts from platform to street level. | Confirmed accessible |
| Accessible toilets | There are no public toilets directly on the Walk. The Ovation Hollywood mall (next to the Hollywood / Highland station) has accessible toilets on its lower retail floor. Most Hollywood Boulevard restaurants and cafes have step-free interiors and accessible toilets for paying customers. | Partially confirmed |
| Companion admission | There is no admission to the Walk; it is a public sidewalk. Paid attractions along the Walk (TCL Chinese Theatre tours, Madame Tussauds, the Hollywood Museum) have their own companion-ticket policies; check each venue separately. | Confirmed accessible |
| Wheelchair loan | The Walk has no wheelchair-loan programme; it is a public sidewalk, not a venue. If a manual loaner is needed, the Ovation Hollywood mall and the larger Hollywood hotels can sometimes lend or rent one for in-mall use; call ahead. | Unconfirmed |
Getting there
The two Metro B Line stations Hollywood / Highland (western end of the Walk) and Hollywood / Vine (middle of the Walk) are the easiest accessible-arrival points. Both stations have lifts from the underground platform to the street. The B Line connects directly to Union Station downtown.
By car, paid parking lots run along Highland Avenue between Hollywood and Sunset. Accessible bays are in most lots; check signage as you arrive. Street parking on Hollywood Boulevard is metered and limited; the side streets (Cherokee, Las Palmas) often have more accessible-friendly kerb cuts.
Walking the route
The most walked stretch is between the Dolby Theatre / Ovation Hollywood at Hollywood / Highland (where the Academy Awards are held) and the El Capitan Theatre / TCL Chinese Theatre, all within three blocks. This is the busiest pedestrian zone with the densest concentration of star photos and street performers.
The Vine Street segment runs four blocks south of Hollywood Boulevard and is much quieter. Stars on Vine include older Hollywood names. Pavement on Vine is generally smoother than the busiest blocks of Hollywood Boulevard, where street activity has worn some star surfaces.
Sidewalk surface
Stars are coral-pink terrazzo rimmed with brass, set flush with the sidewalk. They do not create height differences for wheels. The surrounding sidewalk varies block by block; some sections have cracks, repair patches and curb-cut transitions that may rattle a chair. The smoothest blocks are between Highland and Las Palmas.
Crowds at peak times (weekend midday) slow movement on the busiest blocks. Costumed street performers gather around the Chinese Theatre courtyard, which can become a bottleneck for wheelchair clearance.
Paid attractions along the Walk
Several paid attractions sit directly on the Walk and each has its own accessibility policy. The TCL Chinese Theatre offers backstage tours; Madame Tussauds Hollywood is across the street; the Hollywood Museum is one block south on Highland. Each venue has its own published accessibility info on its own site.
Dolby Theatre tours (where the Academy Awards are held) include the auditorium and lobby. Tours are step-free into the lobby; check the current accessibility info for the auditorium section before booking.
Tips for visiting
Visit on a weekday morning to avoid the heaviest pedestrian crowds. The light is also gentler then for photos of the brass-rimmed stars. Bring a charged phone with a star-locator app; finding a specific star out of 2,840 by hand is slower than it sounds.
Pair the Walk with the Hollywood Bowl (north of the Walk, served by the same Metro station) or with Griffith Observatory (a short rideshare or DASH bus from the Vermont / Sunset station two stops east). The Walk itself takes under an hour to roll the most-walked stretch end to end.
