Getting there
The California Science Center sits at 700 Exposition Park Drive, on the south side of Exposition Park in central LA. Metro E Line (Expo Line) Expo Park / USC station opens onto a step-free walkway through the park, less than ten minutes to the Science Center main entrance. The E Line connects to downtown and to Santa Monica without a transfer.
By car, the museum's preferred parking is the Exposition Park lots. Accessible parking is in the main lots; specific bay counts are not on the museum's public materials we could verify. From outside LA, the drive from LAX is around 25 minutes outside peak traffic.
Inside the museum
The two main wings hold the World of Life and Ecosystems permanent exhibitions. The Ecosystems wing is described as a two-storey, 45,000-square-foot space. The Endeavour display is the museum's flagship draw and shows the shuttle in its mounted display position pending its move to the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center.
All permanent exhibition galleries are free. Demonstrations and walk-through exhibits run on a daily schedule; check the visitor map for show times on arrival. The Fire! Science & Safety gallery is one of the newer permanent additions.
Space Shuttle Endeavour
Endeavour is the centrepiece of the visit. The shuttle is displayed in a dedicated hall that visitors enter at ground level. The exhibit includes context displays around the spacecraft's history. Endeavour will move to a new permanent 20-storey display at the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center; check the museum's current updates for transition dates before booking around the Endeavour display specifically.
Timed-entry tickets for the Endeavour display are sometimes required at peak times; these are free but reserved through the museum's website ahead of arrival.
IMAX and special exhibitions
The seven-storey IMAX theatre on site shows science and nature documentaries. IMAX films are a paid add-on to the free general admission. We could not confirm the wheelchair-seating layout in the IMAX from official public sources; check with the IMAX box office for the current accessible-seating row before booking.
Special exhibitions in the Pacific Ocean Hall and other rotating spaces are also paid. These rotate every few months and the museum publishes the line-up on its main exhibitions page; check the schedule for an exhibition that fits the visit before locking in the day.
Tips for visiting
Pair the Science Center with the Natural History Museum (immediately next door) and the California African American Museum (also in Exposition Park) for an Exposition Park day. The three venues share parking and step-free walkways across the park's central lawn.
Weekday mornings are quieter than weekends, especially during the school year when school groups are absent. The IMAX runs an evening slot at peak summer weeks; this is the lightest time to see a film if the daytime queues are long.
