Disability discounts in Granada

Per-venue policy at the Alhambra, the Catedral, the Capilla Real, the Cartuja and San Jeronimo, plus the free pensioner card on the city buses.

Granada's discount picture is simple. The Alhambra is the only flagship that can resolve to free admission on disability documentation. The diocese monuments (Catedral, Capilla Real, Cartuja, San Jeronimo) discount to roughly 5 euros at the window for a disabled visitor with credentials. City buses are free for an eligible pensioner with a Tarjeta Pensionista.

The bar across every venue is the 33 percent grado threshold, set by Spain's national disability law. A foreign visitor cannot get the resident Tarjeta Acreditativa; Spain is not in the European Disability Card pilot either. The working evidence at the window is a home-country disability ID plus a doctor's letter on hospital letterhead stating the equivalent percentage. Bring originals.

How to claim

At the Alhambra ticket window, present the official disability ID and the supporting doctor's letter at the same moment. Staff decide on the spot whether the case clears as gratuidad (free) or reducción (reduced). Do not buy a standard online ticket first and try to upgrade later; the online system has no slot for a free disabled ticket and refunds are awkward.

At the diocese monuments (Catedral, Capilla Real, Cartuja, San Jeronimo), the venue's ticketing partner is ticketsgranadacristiana.com. The Capacidades diferentes (con acreditación) rate is 5 euros for a disabled visitor and is bookable in advance. The standard adult is 7 euros outside special exhibitions.

On the city buses, the Tarjeta Pensionista (free) and the Bono para Personas con Discapacidad both have to be applied for in person via the operator. They are resident-style entitlements, not on-the-day passes for a tourist; a short-stay visitor pays the standard fare or uses the prepaid Credibus card.

Practical tips

Bring originals of every document. Photocopies are usually fine for the diocese monuments, but the Alhambra has the strictest verification because it has a free option. The Catedral applies a higher fare (10 euros standard, 8 euros reduced) during the periodic Kerygma exhibition (typically May to November); the Capacidades diferentes tier still applies at the reduced rate during the exhibition window.
