Miniatur Wunderland wheelchair accessibility
Fully step-free across both buildings, wheelchair lift at the entrance, lifts to all floors, accessible toilets, 10 EUR wheelchair ticket.
Miniatur Wunderland is the world's largest model railway and miniature exhibition, set inside the historic Speicherstadt (warehouse city) district in Hamburg's HafenCity. The attraction spans two interconnected warehouses with over 10,000 square metres of floorspace, representing more than 20 world regions in incredible detail.
The operator confirms that the entire Wunderland is barrier-free and wheelchair-accessible throughout both buildings. A wheelchair lift at the entrance handles the four steps, passenger lifts serve every exhibition floor, and wheelchair users pay a special discounted ticket. This is one of the most accessible major visitor attractions in Germany.
Accessibility at a glance
| What | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Wheelchair lift at the entrance steps | The main entrance has four steps, handled by a dedicated wheelchair lift. Maximum capacity is 300 kg (wheelchair plus person combined). Maximum wheelchair dimensions for the lift: 100 cm length and 77 cm width. Staff operate the lift on request. If your wheelchair exceeds these dimensions, use the alternative accessible entrance at the rear of the building (Am Sandtorkai 33, same street), which requires advance notice by phone. | Confirmed accessible |
| Lifts to all exhibition floors in both buildings | Both warehouse buildings have passenger lifts serving every floor. In the main building, the lift connects the entrance level with the shop, bistro, and upper exhibition floors. In the second building (Block L, connected by a bridge over the canal), the lift runs between floor 2 (which has the diner and the accessible toilet), floor 3, and floor 4 (special exhibitions). Both lifts are marked on the visitor map available at the entrance desk. | Confirmed accessible |
| Accessible toilets in both buildings | Wheelchair-accessible toilets are available in both warehouse buildings. In Block L (the second building), the accessible toilet is on floor 2, the same floor as the diner. Both toilets are marked on the visitor map. The entrance building also has accessible facilities near the lift. | Confirmed accessible |
| 10 EUR wheelchair ticket; 19 EUR reduced for other disabled visitors | Wheelchair users pay a special ticket of 10 EUR, compared to the 22 EUR adult standard ticket. Disabled visitors aged 16 and over who are not in a wheelchair, plus their companions, pay the reduced rate of 19 EUR. Present your disability card or wheelchair confirmation at the desk; the rate is applied on the spot. | Confirmed accessible |
| U4 Hafencity Universitat or bus to Baumwall; distances approximate | The nearest step-free U-Bahn station is U4 Hafencity Universitat, with an approximately 600-metre roll on a flat waterfront promenade to the Wunderland entrance (distance not confirmed by the operator; check a mapping app before you travel). HVV buses on several routes stop at Baumwall with low-floor step-free boarding. Two disabled parking spaces are at the Auf dem Sande bridge; additional parking is in garages in the Speicherstadt and HafenCity. | Unconfirmed |
| Coat check for belongings; no wheelchair loan | Miniatur Wunderland does not loan wheelchairs. A coat check is available at EUR 0.50 per item, since the locker stations are not wheelchair-accessible. If you use your own wheelchair, the exhibition aisles are wide enough throughout both buildings. | Confirmed accessible |
Overview
Miniatur Wunderland opened in 2001 and now occupies two interconnected Speicherstadt warehouses with around 10,000 square metres of exhibition space. The exhibition covers more than 20 world regions; aircraft take off and land on a 1:87 scale replica of Hamburg Airport.
The operator confirms the entire Wunderland is barrierefrei and wheelchair-accessible across both buildings.
The entrance and wheelchair lift
The main entrance at Kehrwieder 2-4 has four steps. A staff-operated wheelchair lift handles these: maximum 300 kg combined, maximum wheelchair dimensions 100 cm long and 77 cm wide. Ask any staff member to operate it.
If your wheelchair exceeds those dimensions, call ahead and arrive at the rear entrance at Am Sandtorkai 33 (ground-level, advance notice required). Once inside, aisles are wide enough for a power wheelchair throughout.
Moving between floors and buildings
Block B (main building): a passenger lift connects the entrance level with the bistro, shop, and upper exhibition floors. Block L (second building, reached by a covered step-free bridge) has a lift connecting floor 2 (diner and accessible toilet), floor 3, and floor 4 (special exhibitions). Both lifts are marked on the visitor map at the desk.
Accessible toilets
Wheelchair-accessible toilets are in both buildings, marked on the visitor map. In Block L, the accessible toilet is on floor 2 alongside the diner.
Tickets and pricing
Wheelchair users pay 10 EUR (standard adult 22 EUR). Disabled visitors aged 16 and over who are not wheelchair users, plus their companions, pay the reduced rate of 19 EUR. Present your disability card at the desk; staff issue the correct rate on the spot.
The attraction is extremely popular; book timed-entry tickets online in advance, especially for weekends. Check the events calendar for the Rollstuhl-Abend (wheelchair evening) sessions.
Getting there
From Hauptbahnhof, take U4 to Hafencity Universitat (5 minutes), then follow the flat waterfront promenade south-west to the Wunderland entrance. HVV buses on routes 6 and 111 stop at Baumwall with low-floor boarding. Check a mapping app for the current walking distance before you travel.
Two disabled parking spaces are at the Auf dem Sande bridge. The rear accessible entrance (Am Sandtorkai 33) is useful if arriving by car with an oversized wheelchair.
