Disability discounts in Düsseldorf

Where a German disability pass with the B mark gets the companion in free, where the disabled visitor pays half-price, and what to bring to the counter.

The pattern in Düsseldorf is the free companion. At the K20 Kunstsammlung, Museum Kunstpalast, and KIT Kunst im Tunnel, a German disability pass with the B mark gets the registered companion in for free. The Tonhalle gives both visitor and companion about half off; the same B mark covers free companion travel on Rheinbahn.

What to bring

Bring your German disability pass. The major museums apply the reduced ticket at a 50 percent disability rating or higher, and the free companion seat depends on the B mark on the back of the pass. The Tonhalle concert discount applies from a 70 percent rating. Show the pass at the ticket counter or to the tram inspector. Foreign disability cards are not automatically recognised but are usually accepted along with a passport.

How to claim each discount

For the K20 and K21 Kunstsammlung, the reduced rate prints at the counter on presentation of the pass. The companion ticket is not on the online cart for the disability rate; ask at the counter so the B mark can be checked.

For Museum Kunstpalast, the reduced rate prints automatically on presentation; the companion ticket is also issued at the counter. Wheelchairs can be borrowed at the cloakroom free of charge.

For KIT Kunst im Tunnel, both the disabled visitor and the companion enter free; show the pass at the counter on the way in. Every second Sunday of the month KIT is free for everyone.

For the Tonhalle, book the wheelchair seats through the visitor service rather than the standard online cart. The discount applies to both your ticket and the companion's when the pass shows the B mark.

On the Rheinbahn network, no advance booking is needed. If the pass carries the B mark, the companion travels free on the same vehicle. The disabled visitor themselves travels free if the pass has the orange-print right-hand panel; otherwise, the standard tariff applies.
