Zwinger wheelchair accessibility

The Zwinger's courtyard is reached step-free via Theaterplatz. A lift next to the Old Masters Picture Gallery door takes you up to the galleries. The Porcelain Collection and the Mathematics-Physics Salon sit level with the courtyard and enter directly. The Old Masters ticket is 18 €, 13,50 € reduced; the gallery is open daily 10:00 to 17:00 with Mondays closed.

The Zwinger is a short roll from the Semperoper and the Theaterplatz, the same plaza the trams call at. From Dresden Hauptbahnhof, take tram 11 toward Bühlau and step off at Postplatz, then follow the level path along the Sophienstraße side to the Zwingerhof.

The pavement around the Zwinger is paved stone and even on the main routes. Avoid cutting across the central garden, which has gravel paths that are heavy going for manual wheelchairs.

The step-free entrance for the Old Masters Picture Gallery is on Theaterplatz, the side facing the Semperoper. There is a second step-free way in from the Zwingerhof itself. The Porcelain Collection and the Mathematics-Physics Salon each have their own step-free door, located directly next to the main entrance for each collection rather than via a back route. The courtyard is paved and level; expect to share the space with crowds during midday.

Inside the Old Masters Picture Gallery, a lift next to the entrance connects the ground floor to the upper galleries. The lift is wide enough for a powered wheelchair. Galleries on each level connect through wide doorways without steps. Staff at the ticket desk can flag any temporary closures or routes affected by exhibition build-out.

The Old Masters ticket is 18 € with a 13,50 € reduced rate. The reduced category is the standard German museum bracket that typically includes disabled visitors with a national disability pass; the SKD page does not separately list the disabled-visitor entitlement, so present the pass at the desk and confirm the rate at point of sale. An accessible toilet is available inside the Old Masters Picture Gallery; ask staff at the cloakroom for the nearest one to your route. The SKD does not list its full toilet layout publicly, so if you need a specific location at one of the smaller Zwinger collections, ask at the venue's own ticket desk.

Buy timed tickets online for the Old Masters Picture Gallery when you can, especially on weekend afternoons in summer; the queue at the door can be long even when the gallery itself is quiet.

If you only have time for one Zwinger collection, the Old Masters Picture Gallery is the level with the lift access and the most spread-out galleries; the Porcelain Collection and the Mathematics-Physics Salon are denser and step-free but compact.

The Zwinger Nymphenbad fountain courtyard and the upper gallery walkway are not step-free; views of them from the main courtyard at ground level are good enough.
