What the Promenade is and where it runs

The Promenade des Anglais runs along the Baie des Anges, from Nice Côte d'Azur airport at the western end to the Quai des États-Unis at the foot of the Castle Hill at the eastern end. Total length is roughly 7 kilometres. The Wikipedia article on the Promenade confirms this run and is the tidiest published reference; the city's own pages document the individual landmarks rather than the route as a whole.

The walking surface is paved throughout. It is popular with locals on foot, on bicycles, with strollers, on skateboards, and on in-line skates, so expect movement on Sunday afternoons. The Promenade has a separate cycle lane on most of its length, which keeps wheels and feet largely apart.

Adapted beaches: Carras and Centenaire

Plage Adaptée Carras (285 promenade des Anglais) is Nice's flagship adapted-beach service. The city loans amphibious wheelchairs ('fauteuils amphibies') free of charge, with no booking, no documentation requirement, and no fee. The team on site is trained as Handiplage lifeguards with the national swimming and water-rescue qualification.

On site you get accessible showers, accessible toilets, and a changing space. Reserved parking spaces for disability permit holders are available nearby. The service runs as a seasonal municipal service in summer; the equipment is stored for the winter.

Plage Adaptée du Centenaire (1 promenade des Anglais) operates a second adapted-beach service at the eastern end of the Promenade, near the Old Town. The city's handicap portal lists both. The detailed facilities listing is published only for Carras, so phone 04 97 13 28 24 before relying on the Centenaire site for a specific facility (amphibious chair, lifeguard hours).

Tips for wheelchair users

Walk the Promenade in shorter segments. 7 kilometres is a long roll. The classic visitor stretch runs from the Hôtel Negresco area to Place Masséna, a flat 2 kilometres with restaurants and shade along the side streets.

Watch the cycle lane on the inland side of the walking path. Cyclists and e-scooter riders move quickly; cross deliberately when joining or leaving the path. Most of the wheelchair-accessible cross-streets between the Promenade and the Old Town are signalled.

The Promenade carries the memorial to the 14 July 2016 attack. The memorial sits at the eastern end on the Quai des États-Unis side. The Wikipedia article on the Promenade carries the historical context.
