Parc de la Colline du Château wheelchair accessibility
Hilltop park with accessible toilets. Approach from the top entrance, not the Old Town stairs.
Parc de la Colline du Château is the 19-hectare hilltop park above Old Nice. The city's page confirms accessible toilets and an inclusive children's play area. The hillside approach is by long stair sequences from the Old Town; wheelchair users should enter from the top via Montée Monfort.

Where the park is and how to approach it
The park covers the hill that separates Old Nice from the port. Its published street address is Montée Monfort, which is the road on the inland side of the hill. That is the approach to use in a wheelchair. The classic visitor route climbs the stair sequences from Quai des États-Unis on the seafront side, which has many steps and is not wheelchair-accessible.
From the city centre, the most direct accessible approach is via the inland road network up to Montée Monfort. A taxi or a wheelchair-accessible private hire is the simplest option if you are not already up the hill.
If you have heard about a public lift up the hill from the seafront, do not assume it is operating without checking. The city's published page for this park does not document such a lift. Phone Allo Mairie on 3906 before you travel, or ask at the tourist office on arrival.
What's at the top
The park is large, with 19 hectares of paths, lawns, a cascade, archaeological remains, and views over the Baie des Anges and the Old Town. The whole area was redesigned with an inclusive children's play area in recent years. The city's page lists the play area as one of the park's defining features.
Accessible toilets (Toilettes PMR) are on site. The specific location within the park is not published; ask at the playground area on arrival or look for the standard PMR signage.
The park itself does not have a museum or paid attraction inside it. It is a public open space, free at all times during opening hours.
Hours and practical details
Open daily, year-round. Summer hours (April 1 to October 31): 8:30 to 20:00. Winter hours (November 1 to March 31): 8:30 to 18:00. The park closes overnight.
Address: Montée Monfort, 06300 Nice. The lieu page is the only published source for the park's hours and features. For accessibility questions not covered there, contact the city via Allo Mairie on 3906 or the email handicap@ville-nice.fr from the city's handicap portal.
Why visit, and what to expect
The Colline is worth the climb (or, more accurately, the wheelchair-friendly approach via Montée Monfort) for the view. From the top, you look down the full sweep of the Baie des Anges on one side, and over the rooftops of Old Nice and the port on the other. The hill marks the historical seed of the city; the castle that once crowned it is long ruined, but the archaeological remains are signposted along the upper paths.
The cascade is a man-made waterfall built into the northern side of the hill. It is visible from a viewing terrace; the terrace surface is paved. The inclusive children's play area redesign is recent and is one of the city's flagship inclusive-design projects.
Honest scope note
The wheelchair-accessibility information published for this park is limited. The city confirms accessible toilets and an inclusive play area, but does not publish a step-free route map, a lift status, or wheelchair loan. Treat this page as a starting point and confirm the specific feature you depend on with the city before you travel.
