Getting there

The museum sits on cours Pasteur in central Bordeaux. The nearest tram stop is Musée d'Aquitaine on tram line B, served by fully low-floor trams with level boarding. From Saint-Jean station it is about ten minutes on tram C with an interchange at Place de la Bourse to tram B, or roughly fifteen minutes by accessible taxi.

Accessible street parking sits along cours Pasteur and the surrounding streets. On-street parking is free at any meter when you display a European parking card (CES) or a French CMI marked 'stationnement' (CMI-S). For door-to-door rides, the Mobi+ paratransit service serves the museum on prior booking.

Step-free entrance and lifts inside

Look for the entrance at 18 cours Pasteur, a few metres to the left of the main staircase under the colonnade. The main door above the steps is not the wheelchair access; the side entrance is. Staff unlock it during opening hours on request, or you can call ahead.

Inside, a lift in front of the cloakroom serves the second-floor permanent collection. The ground floor and the lift-served upper level are reachable autonomously without staff help.

Accessible toilets, wheelchair loan and audio aids

Every toilet in the museum is wheelchair-adapted. There is no single accessible facility to plan around because all of them are adapted.

Wheelchairs and folding seats can be borrowed free of charge on request at reception, so you do not have to travel with your own chair if a folding seat for resting is enough. Audio headsets are available at the Bordeaux Patrimoine Mondial exhibition space.

Free admission and companion ticket

Admission is free for the disabled visitor and one companion, with no advance booking required. Present a disability card at the reception desk on arrival. Accepted documents include the French Carte Mobilité Inclusion, the Carte d'Invalidité, and attestations for the AAH, AEEH or ASI benefits. The free admission policy covers both the permanent collection and most temporary exhibitions.

Practical tips before you visit

Plan around the closing days: the museum is closed every Monday and on French public holidays. Otherwise it opens 11:00 to 18:00.

If you want a wheelchair on loan, head straight to reception when you arrive rather than after the visit starts, because stock is limited. The Bordeaux Patrimoine Mondial exhibition space is the most worthwhile detour for visitors with hearing impairment because audio headsets are available there.
